Time to ditch the big four banks! #StopAdani #Divest #auspol #qldpol

It’s time to ditch the Big Four!

Australians are sick of dodgy behaviour from the Big Four banks.

In his budget crackdown on the big banks, the Treasurer warned bank bosses that people “don’t like you very much.”

And for good reason: time and time again, the Big Four have failed to do the right thing — especially when it comes to climate change.

Commbank, Westpac, ANZ and NAB have all made commitments to limit global warming to under 2℃, yet they continue to fund the kinds of fossil fuel projects that are destroying our climate.

In fact, together they bankrolled more than $10 billion in fossil fuel projects last year.
That’s why in 2017, GetUp members are taking the fight directly to the Big Four.
We know big businesses will change their behaviour when they’re pushed by their investors — for the Big Four retail banks, that includes everyday people like us.
Since March, more than 17,000 GetUp members have pledged to leave the Big Four.
Hundreds of us have contacted our banks via email and social media to drive home the message: we won’t give up, until you give up on fossil fuels.
And dozens of GetUp members have been asking — which banks are better?
There are strict laws preventing GetUp from giving you financial advice, and members should look at their own circumstances before making a decision.
But Bank Australia is an ethical alternative, with firm commitments against lending to the fossil fuel industry.

For every person who switches to Bank Australia through the Brighter Banks campaign, GetUp receives a once-off financial contribution — allowing us to do even more to fight for a safe climate future.
It may seem small, but divesting from fossil fuels is one powerful thing you can do to ensure we keep moving in the right direction.

We know this work is having an impact.

Already this year, people power has had a huge win, with Westpac ruling out funding the Adani mine.
It’s a good start, and a sign that our pressure is working. But our work’s not done – Westpac loaned almost $1.5 billion to other fossil fuel projects in 2016.
We need to send the Big Four a clear message: Enough is enough — stop investing in fossil fuels or your customers will walk.
Every person who leaves the Big Four, and tells them why, puts more pressure on them to quit climate-destroying coal and gas for good.
