“WE’RE NORMALLY LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS” SAY ANTI-COAL PROTESTERS
Despite an extraordinary police presence around the Port of Newcastle since before dawn, almost 30 anti-coal protesters have managed to enter coal-loading facilities and climb a stacker reclaimer.

A group of campaigners cheered as those who climbed the tower were led down by police (see video).
Police say they removed 27 people, arresting 17 who they allege didn’t comply with their orders.

The group Frontline Action on Coal has been warning of protest action all week and police were out in force since around 3am, including officers from the dog squad, riot squad, mounted police and water police.

Protester Robert McLaughlan from the Hunter Valley town of Bulga was one of the protesters and says he’s normally a law abiding citizen but feels strongly it’s time to make a stand against coal for the sake of his grandchildren.

At this stage it’s unclear to what extent the protesters interrupted coal-loading activities but police have told ABC Newcastle the port was not shut down as a result.
Meanwhile in San Francisco world leaders at the Global Climate Action Summit this week called for climate action and commitment to a climate safe future for all.
“The Climate Crisis Calls For Urgent Action”

Who does the Australian government represent?
Why does a 96 year old Veterans like Bill Ryan and grand mothers have to put their lives on the line to protect their grandchildren and future generations from climate change?
What does it say about our democracy when law abiding citizens are called to chain themselves to railway lines?
Why do government put profit before people, ignoring science and putting all future generations at risk of catastrophic climate change?
Why do governments ignore the overwhelming majority of Australians who want a clean energy future?

Why does today’s mainstream media choose to ignore these actions?
Stories that will be told for generations to come.
The legend of climate heroes will be told to future generations for hundreds of years, if humanity survives the climate crisis.
